A LONG WEEKEND?

A LONG WEEKEND?

Our guests come from all over … and they love to explore the corner of Scotland around our farm. Here’s just a taster of what you could enjoy on a weekend break with us in 2019 …
Friday afternoon: arrive, unpack, kick back and enjoy your home from home. We’re blessed with award winning eateries around us. Why not book ahead to enjoy a meal at The Newport just a 10 minute drive from your lodge?

This stunning restaurant run by owner-chef, Jamie Scott – overlooks the River Tay and the V&A Dundee.

Saturday morning: after breakfast, why not head for a morning walk or bike ride in the nearby Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve*?

Acres of forest lead onto unspoilt golden sands where you’ll often spy seals on the sand bars just off the shore. You can visit the bird and nature hides at Morton Loch – to spy red squirrels and an abundance of bird life who make their home in the reserve.

Saturday lunch? There are easy snack options – from The Rhynd cafe just outside the reserve – serving delicious bakes and treats in a restored farm stealing. Needing something more substantial? Head into the city of discovery, Dundee. It has a wealth of fab cafes and restaurants.

Saturday afternoon: the V&A Dundee is a must. This stunning creation on the Tay is the home of Scottish design.

They have some great exhibitions coming up – Videogames: Design/Play/Disrupt (20 Apr to 8 Sep 2019) and Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine (2 Nov 2019 to 23 Feb 2020).

Saturday evening … heading back to you lodge, detour into Newport and visit the artisan butcher. Locally sourced beef, pork, lamb … as well as their award-winning pies. Perfect for supper to be cooked and enjoyed as you relax back on the farm.

Sunday morning: Easy. There’s a simple choice. Head into St Andrews. Your lodge overlooks the ancient University town and the home of golf. On Sundays, you can walk on the iconic Old Course and grab the obligatory selfie on the Swilcan Bridge on the 18th hole.

A few steps away is West Sands beach, the British Golf Museum and the golfers’ pub, The Jigger Inn alongside the world famous Road Hole. Head into town to discover boutiques, cobbled streets and the history and heritage that greets every turn. The castle. The ruins of the cathedral.

Sunday lunch? There’s everything from burger bars and fish and chip take always to Michelin starred restaurants in and around St Andrews. Check out The Seafood Ristorante on the beach. Love steaks? Seek out Rogue on South Street. What could be better than grabbing some fish and chips to go from either Tailend or Cromars – and enjoy them sitting alongside the old harbour and East Sands Beach?
